Let me start with saying this is a seasonal restaurant. I like the atmosphere. We sat at high bar tables which are great. They a nice piece of art made from parts of a ww 2 aircraft carrier. The appetizer menu was broad and good choices. The dinner menu was limited. Don't expect to eat dessert there. They didn't ask if we wanted dessert. When we did they had few choices. None you would be interested in. I had the octopus and trout. Both very good. The beer choices were great. Since seasonal they were out of cider and some wines. The service was ok. Had to ask for my drink multiple times. All in all. An average experience.

Went here during the bike race in West Chester. I liked the look of this place. It has a pretty large wood bar that's nice. The bartenders were fast and helpful. Lots of beer and drink choices to pick from. I had a Cesar chicken salad for dinner. It was very good and the chicken was large and cooked spot on. I will be back for sure.

This place is fabulous! We went here for drinks and appetizers during parents' night out. We enjoyed their craft brew selection, and then each had a beer cocktail. They were inventive and delicious. We had the queso panela, which was light and tasty. Then we decided to take a gander at desert - shoo fly pie creme brule. It was phenomenal. We will be back. We have a toddler - so I like to add a line about whether or not this is good for kids - and I'm on the fence (no pun intended). It was definitely a fun, casual place, but all the high-top tables and the menu make me doubt that I would bring my kid here. Great for date night - especially a double date.

Very impressed. Customer service, food, and drink were all exceptional. My husband and I had the pork belly and shrimp skewers, octopus, lamb and pappardelle, and the pickle brined fried chicken sandwich. Holy cow it was all so delicious! We also enjoyed the large variety of beers on tap and if your a wine lover they also have wine on tap. We will be back definately!

This is a must try in West Chester! I went here last night with my parents and we were seated right away. We got there at the perfect time before it got very crowded. My first observation was how great the renovation turned out. The hardwood floors are beautiful and I love how they left the old windows in and some exposed brick on the walls. This has a modern yet classic feel that turned out perfectly. After reading great reviews on here about the eggplant fries, we decided to order them as an appetizer and they were delicious! I definitely recommend them! I looked at the menu ahead of time and wasn't too thrilled with the vegetarian options but was pleasantly surprised after hearing the specials. They had 2 other vegetarian dishes to offer. I got the fried green tomato sandwich and it was incredible! It had a giant portobello mushroom on it, a generous amount of tomatoes, spouts and a homemade spicy red pepper mayo. Yum! I subbed the fries for the salad and could not believe how generous of a salad portion they give! It was huge and delicious. Oh and a nice pickle on the side! The table next to me got the vegetarian pasta vegetable dish that looked incredible with brussel spouts, artichokes and so much more. I was so torn with what to order! My parents ordered the mussels as an appetizer. They gave a very generous amount and they loved the white sauce and warm bread that came with the mussels. My mom order the special which was a steak flatbread and my dad ordered the pork sandwich. I tasted some of his fries and they were delicious. He absolutely loved his sandwich and my mom enjoyed the flatbread. The owner or manager checked on us a few times and this impressed me. Our waitress was very attentive and gave great recommendations. She even gave us a water pitcher for our table in a cute milk jar. The chefs here are top notch and come from extensive cooking backgrounds. Obviously they listened to the need for more options for vegetarians and I am so happy about that. I was happy to hear by our waitress that by the end of the night, they usually run out of the specials which means the ingredients are all fresh which is what you want when you order a meal. The beer list on tap is great and they have a good variety. We will definitely be returning, hopefully soon! This is exactly what West Chester needed!

My husband and I ate here last night for dinner. We were greeted right away by the hostess and then greeted by our server, Jaclyn C, who was very nice and gave great advice about the menu and their specials. I started by ordering the Ithaca Flower Power from their deliciously selected craft beer menu and my husband ordered the Yards IPA. We then ordered the octopus as our appetizer. Everything about this dish, from the octopus itself to the harissa puree and the Moroccan bean salad, was delicious! I ordered the Belgian mussels for my entree and my husband ordered the pickle-brined fried chicken sandwich. There were so many mussels I, sadly, couldn't finish them all. There were four mussels I found that were closed so I wouldn't have been able to eat those anyway. But none of the mussels tasted like the Jersey Shore so you know they're fresh! The chicken sandwich was delicious and presented really nicely. The combination of the salty fried chicken with the sweet BBQ sauce was an excellent combination. We are very impressed with how much the inside of this place was transformed. There are no longer any remnants of the former 15 North and it's now a grown-up place to eat some good food and drink some good beers. The only con I have is that there isn't any outside seating which would have been perfect on a night like last night. We will definately be back for more!

Strengths: GREAT beer and wine selection. In fact, I don't know of any other place here in West Chester or Philly that has wine on tap in three sizes: - 3 oz, 6 oz, and carafe are all available for a number of reds and whites. Next time I'll try the beers out more. The space itself is really nice - they have transformed it into an open, airy, yet still cozy place with attractive wood tables and bar runners. It's somehow modern-yet-rustic and a lovely space to hang out in, if a bit loud. Our server was gracious and attentive. And - this is a big one for me - I love the bottle of water they automatically supply at your table, so you can refill at will. Awesome touch. My food - I ordered the falafel pita - was delicious;I I subbed the split rail salad for fries and to make it vegan, omitted the yogurt sauce. It was excellent - great falafel with generous bites of onion, bell pepper etc. And the salad was outstanding. Opportunities: Please, Split Rail, please please consider adding more vegetarian/vegan-friendly options to your menu. You are already at the level of some of the more amazing gastro-pubs in Philly and, if you take a look at the menus of many of those places, you will see the trend towards veg-friendly items. I'll be back!

My love had some business to do in West Chester so I decided to tag along with her and grab a bite to eat beforehand. We went to this place because of the positive Yelp reviews. We were greeted with a smile and shown to our seat immediately. The server came right over with the menus and told us the specials for the night. The had a pretty decent draft beer select including a few good Belgiums. We ordered our drinks and food and before we knew it, the appetizer, Eggplant Fries came right out. The were served with two dipping sauces: a marinara sauce that was tasty and a garlic aioli that had a greenish tint to it and had (in our best guestimation) the faint taste of some sort of pickle inclusion. It was REALLY good. I could have dipped my flip flop in that stuff and would have loved that damn flip flop. We moved on to our dinners. I had the special for the night which was a meatball flatbread with mozzarella and fresh basil. The mozzarella was a good quality cheese that melted nicely. Not that cheap stuff that congeals after 60 seconds and has a plastic consistency. The meatballs were ok, but not fantastic. The sauce was flavorful and hearty. My love got the duck confit salad which had duck, (duh, right) with frisée, sliced strawberries, cherry tomatoes and a nice crostini with goat cheese on the side. She said it was tasty. They had clean restrooms, TV's for the big game going and was a nice chill atmosphere. The service was great. Very very friendly and inviting space. I would absolutely go back when in the area again.

The Pickle Brined Fried Chicken is one of the best things I've ever eaten! Great beer selection.

Pretty good place to grab a drink and some food. A bit pricey, though (but what isn't in West Chester?) I will say that their menu is sort of small and a bit pretentious--but their food is good so I won't complain too much about the lack of options! Our waiter was really friendly as well, so that is a big plus! I ordered the falafel pita (vegetarian here) and it was quite good. I mean, I can't rant and rave about it because it was a pretty standard falafel sandwich and there wasn't much creativity going on with it. My friend had the Italian pork sandwich and she loved it. Now, the one thing I will say, is that my friend and I ordered dessert. Normally, we don't order dessert because dessert in restaurants is usually pretty dumb. But being two Berks County natives, when we saw the words "shoofly creme brulee" we had to try it. We often lament about the lack of shoofly pie in Chester County so we were intrigued about this dessert concoction. It was really good. I will say the Berks County girl in me wanted more molasses, but it's cool Split Rail, at least you tried and it was a mix of two desserts after all so I can be understanding. This dessert was probably the highlight of my entire trip to this restaurant. Even more than the beer. Definitely a good place to grab a drink and a decent meal. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because we arrived the restaurant was pretty empty, but it took FOREVER to get our food (probably close to 40 minutes). If it was busy when we got there, I'd totally understand the wait . . . but it really wasn't.

Drop all your other plans and come here right now. I was very impressed on my first trip. Interior renovations turned out great - the atmosphere is amazing. Sat at the bar and ordered drinks and dinner. Bartender was quick, attentive, and answered questions about the menu well. The food was TOP NOTCH. We ordered shrimp and pork belly skewers for an app and seared trout with corn risotto for an entree. Food came out hot, and was all VERY tasty. This is the restaurant West Chester needed - Casual Upscale with amazing food and drink menu. With 10+ years restaurant experience, I consider myself a tough critic. This place has the best food in town. I will definitely be back.

The food looks great, the environment is awesome, also a cool place to come and enjoy a meal. The bar selection is also great. Make sure to check this place out if you are in West Chester, PA!

What a splendid addition to an otherwise shitty dining scene. Actually seems to be trying to serve something worthwhile without making it pretentious. Really great bartender was helpful in choosing a draft as well as some starters for our group. We will definitely come back when in town.

Service was friendly and the food was great! Everything we ate was good, but the winners were - Eggplant Fries and Pickle Brine Chicken. Overall great experience. Will go back when in area.

A very nice addition to the WC restaurant scene. Very good beer and wine selections and the look is a big step up from what was here. One suggestion is to expand the menu a bit. If you come in regularly the, very good, menu is a bit limited after a while.

Stopped in a few times the opening week and only had drinks. The bartenders were great and they have a decent selection of craft beers. However the reason I'm leaving a 5 star review is because of the food that we just had. We stopped in with a party of 4 and sat upstairs. We started with eggplant fries and they were amazing. Fresh and crisp. Not the ones that you get out of the bag. These were handcut and delicious. It was accompanied by 2 dipping sauces that we all loved. For entrees our party had a Ruben, brick chicken, cheese burger, and shrimp tacos. Everyone crushed their entrees and commented how needed a restaurant like this was needed in West Chester. They care about their food. Not just a place to go for Adult beverages. Bye bye Alibis, Hardware Bar, 15 North etc.

This WAS a great new bar in West Chester. But now they are enforcing a $15 minimum on credit cards. The bartender will not tell you this until after you are served a drink. I wouldn't mind if I was made aware prior to ordering a drink but it seems like they just want to force you to buy more drinks

My wife and I came on a busy Friday night. The wait for a table was more than an hour, but we quickly found a spot at the bar and ate there. We were greeted quickly. The draft beer menu is expansive and the mixed drinks well prepared. I got the brick chicken which was awesome! But the menu is a bit limited presumably because it's still new. The appetizer was great but the food took a while to arrive, so they comp'd us a round of drinks for the wait. All around a great experience.

This place is great - great beer selection, creative cocktails and a small but unique menu. Beer menu comes with descriptions of each, which I love. The waitress was fun and very friendly, and knew the menus well enough to answer any and all questions. I can't recommend Split Rail Tavern enough

I've been here twice now. First was the night after they opened. Service was just ok, although I loved the atmosphere. I came back the next week around dinner to get some drinks with a friend. AWESOME service with AWESOME food. My new regular drink/food spot.

We stopped in on Friday night. Apparently it was their soft opening, but they let us come right in. Their beer list is incredible. We had the Stone and Key Cherry Pie Cider. Fantastic! For dinner we shared everything. For the first course we tried this cheese dish with cherries, mussels, and beef carpaccio. The standout was the beef carpaccio. Awesome! Would eat it everyday if I could. The sauce for the mussels was so good we asked for more bread. The cheese was also very good. Perfect combination of sweet and salty. For the entrees we had the brick chicken, lamb ragout, and the shrimp tacos. The chicken was tender and juicy served with caramelized onions, carrots, and potatoes. Yum! The lamb ragout was served with fresh pasta and creamy ricotta. Perfect comfort food. The shrimp tacos were good. A little dry, but tasty. Service was great. There was always someone there if you needed. We love West Chester and finally there's a place with fantastic food and great drinks. A welcome addition to the neighborhood. We'll be back again and again!!

Beautiful remodel! The menu is not exactly my flavor, but really interested my fiancé. We didn't eat here because we stopped in for an early drink just to see what the place was all about. We were the youngest people in the bar, 26 and 28. I think it's due to the high drink prices, many of the specialty drinks were $13-$14. We will come back and give it another try because the drinks we did have were great!

I cannot say enough about this place. Opened by veteran restaurateurs and one of the best menus I've seen in a long time. The staff is amazing and after 6 or 7 visits, I still have no complaints. The food is made with love. My husband and I are working on eating everything on the menu. The decor is beautiful. Really. Go there now.
